Solve : screen blue?

My windows won't LOAD, it says that my computer has shut down windows. The screen is blue, it tells me to start in safe mode and unistall and new hardware or SOFTWARE. I won't go into safe mode, and we did not install any new hardware or software. got any IDEAS??We will when you give some more info like:

What version of Windows?
What computer make/model?
What happened prior to this?
Are you the only person using this computer?
Have you been inside the CASE?
Was everything toally fine and then POOF! Is this statement correct:

Why not?It is an HP with Windows XP.

Prior to this happening, we were on the internet, and a bunch of pop ups came up. The computer then froze up. I had to hold the POWER buttom down until the computer shut down. When I restarted it, the blue screen came up.
