Solve : security programs rebooting?

Answer»

HELP! when switching users my security programs completly shut down and restart. it's not so much the time i lose waiting for the machine as i'm worried that i'm unprotected for a time. i'm running windows xp home sp3. who would be able to answer a question like this? MICROSOFT or the security co.'s. is it a registry fix? What Antivirus and what version of Windows are you running?

Has this problem always been occurring? i'm using the mcafee security anti-virus, firewall and site adviser along with webroots spysweeper. all came with my msn account. i'm using windows xp home sp3 2002 version build 5.01 i belive. and the problem has been happining since i firstset up the machine for seperate users. i keep my machine updated, both windows and the security apps. When you're switching users, do you log off the current user or just switch users, leaving the other one on?
it happens in EITHER case, wether logging off or just switching users. Not sure but you may want to wait for someone with Mcafee.

However, you may want to look into the program settings and see if it may be something in there.

Do you suspect malware? i don't think it's malware because the apps restart when window loads the users settings. its like windows is almost rebooting, it seems to reload the entire start-up almost. it's a puzzler. thanks for your time.Could be an overheating issue...
Remove a side panel and place a small desk fan next to it and see if it stops shutting down.
If so you NEED to update/add some case fans... hey patio. no, not a heating problem. it's just the security apps which are cycling on and off with the user switch. did CHECK just in case. i am going to see what webroot and mcafee have to say. if anything i guess i can shut down the modem while waiting for the apps to restart. AHHAAAA!!!Gotcha...and yes that solution would work.an update for your information. webroot said all i had to do was reinstall the app. didn't work!!! still looking for the solution. i will let you know. ok, here's the final word. webroot again had me uninstall using their uninstaller this time. then they had me install their regular version ( not the msn version ) . this has seemed to work. and now that i have updated my ram and cpu, my mcafee security suite seems to be ok now. once again thank you all for trying. if it starts to mess up again, i'll be back! All right, we'll be here.
