Solve : Security software diapears?

I have

Dell Dimension 8400
Microsoft WINDOWS XP SERVICE pack 3
2 GB of Ram

Have done following:

defrag mented drive
Ran CC clean
deleted all temp files
limited start up program to run.

Every time I turn on my computer the Norton security software DISAPEARS, I was TOLD by Norton people that I have virus call "PAV.EXE" and they can not help me. I have to remove that virus before they will help me.

CAN ANY ONE HELP ME.
AT PRESENT I HAVE NO SECURITY SOFTWARE ON MY COMPUTER.
