Answer» Is there a setting in XP where you can set an "on" time where the PC restarts itself from hibernate? I'm not sure about XP, but in Vista there is a thing called "Remote Desktop Connection". Does XP have it?Yep, but I don't see how you can remotely start a computer. I am aware of ways you can set your BIOS or something to turn on your computer, but I'm not sure. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/401271: Hibernate means that the computer will save your session, so when you turn it back on, everything will be the same as you left it. To answer your question 'why don't some computers have it', it is either it has been disabled or it is an older VERSION of Windows. I know that Hibernation has a low success rate with Windows XP Users, not sure about Vista though. Personally, I would use Stand By. (In fact I use this at school but I turn the computer off at night) Sleep keeps your session in memory and puts the computer in a low power state so you can easily resume what you were doing. Thanks for the feedback. Decided to do a Google search and found a few interesting answers although i still have not nailed the answer for this used computer that i picked up that started on it's own the only time i used Hibernate and had it connected to a LIVE modem at the same time. i suppose i can try leaving it in Hibernate and not having it connected to the computer to see if it still turns itself on. The woman that i got it from had it set up for a business network that she accessed from home. That is why i wondered if it could be pinged or sent a signal from her companies computer automatically. The option allow OTHERS to access the computer was enabled. i disconnected that feature. Ask her Read up on the Wake on LAN feature in the BIOS...it should be in the Owner's MANUAL. |
