Solve : Serious problem with USB devices?

Answer»

When I plug in a USB it is not detected in "My Computer". There are 4 "removable disks" and none of them are SHOWING the USB device I plugged in. I'll take a picture to show you what I mean. Whenever I click on the removable disks they say "Please insert a DISK into Removable Disk (G:) (H:) (whatever:)...

So where is my USB device that I just plugged in?

Here is the picture, please look because it will help you understand

As you see in the picture the USB drives are no where to be found and I can't access my thing I put in the USB slot. Where can I find it?My hunch is you have a card reader installed in your machine with 4 different card slots?

These will always display as icons with drive letters in both Vista and windows 7 and unless a memory card is inserted it will report the error you described "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk".

Your usb device should be detected separately and Vista should ask you to install DRIVERS for your device.

What sort of USB devices have you tried?
What USB ports are you trying (front, rear, One on card reader...)?
Does the usb device work in another PC?

Once we know this we may be able to better help you out.Does your PRINTER have a card reader ? ?Sorry guys I'm an idiot. Apparently Apple doesn't let you view their devices in "My Computer" and you can only access from Itunes. Sorry problem is solved now and everything is fine. You're not an idiot.....
Glad you got it solved.Apple is very greedy when it COMES to their devices and using Windows. iTunes is a PITA. My iPod shows up in the Windows 7 "Computer" but is listed as a camera...

If it's music files you are trying to work with then use http://www.mediamonkey.com/
The free version will do all you need as far as working with your iPod library within your device.

A slick little tool I recently discovered for working with USB devices, Apple included, use USBDeview http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html (Another quality NirSoft tool!)
