Solve : Service Pack 2 Problem?

Answer»

I have a Dell Computer that is running XP Professional but in Service Pack 1.  I bought an iPhone, which requires that I upgrade to Service Pack 2.  I tried installing Service Pack 2.  I downloaded all the upgrades, and they require me to restart the computer.

When the computer restarts, the dell screen shows, and the Windows screen shows.  Then, the screen that has me choose a USER does not load.  Instead, the screen goes black and the light on the monitor changes from green to brown.  However, the computer is still running.

I have rebooted in safe mode which brings me back to Service Pack 1.  I have also rebooted to my last known good config and something interesting HAPPENS.  A window pops up that tells me "Services and Controllers Apps..." needs to be closed.  When I close that window, another window pops up TELLING me the computer will be restarted in 60 seconds due to services.exe and error code 1073741819.

.  Is this a registry problem? Virus?

I have attached a hjt logfile if it is of any help.  Thanks.  What the *censored* is going on here?

[Saving DISK space -  OLD attachment deleted by admin]I dont think this will help you much, but it will allow you to troubleshot farther:

Press ALT+CTRL+DEL
Click File>New Task

Type:
shutdown /a
and press ENTER

This will bypass the shutdown procedure.

Do not use this as a solution, only use it for help in solving your problem.
Your computer may not function completely correct in the aborted shutdown mode when its shut down due to an error.
