Solve : Several bad things happening? |

Answer» Hi everyone MY PROBLEMS (PC that is) don't know if its PC or other related Browser shuts down for no known reason and usually restarts. Sometimes it sticks one the Gateway page The one w/ bios f2, I think that's what is says Only other thing on pg is Pentium Logo. If it freezes here I can only turn on and off the PC and eventually it will boot and go to windows. Tried waiting different times between turning off and on and makes not difference. Clean out the dust inside case (it needed it) left side of case off and pointed fan at it thinking overheating my be cause, but nothing has changed. On some sites I go to there will only be a blank browser with done in left LOWER bar and correct URL in top. Refresh (sometimes several times) and get to a code page and have to refresh again and it may take to the destination or back to blank page, anyway refreshing usually gets me where I' going but sometimes it happens as continue to navigate the site. Some times I just give up for the day. The site it happens most on is a legit site and they can find no fault on their end. This can also happen on other sites and does from time to time. A lot of Error messages (... encountered a problem and has to close...) with firefox, IE and WMPlayer. Also get ... system has recovered from a serious error.... I leave it own at night (turn off once or twice a week) and now the standy by does not work. I come in in the AM and it still on. Manually doesn't work either. I've tried changing settings etc. and nothing works - I' at a loss (but I'm also techinally challenged!) CA is my real time protection. Also use spybot, malewarebytes, Pitstop and CC Cleaner and windows defenders. I don't have any idea if I'm in the right forum but maybe someone will see a red flag and point me in the right direction. Log is below with other info. Thanks for what you folks do!!!!! Please, post some computer info: processor type/speed, RAM amount, hard drive size/free space. What browser are you using? Did you try different browser? Get SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php, and post your computer temps. We'll go from there.I could not download SpeedFan the same page would just reload. Tried IE and firefox. Broni Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 SP2 Gateway 817GM Intel(R) Pentium(r) 4 CPU 3.00GHz 504 MB of Ram Local disk (C:) File System NTFS Free Space 164 GB Total size 181 I use firefox latest and IE 7 only when something does not work with firefox, mostly text editors' color pickers. Plus IE is slower. PS Looks like my problem is intermittent as I just went to one of the sites that I usually have to reload constantly to navigate worked perfectly and fast both on IE and firefox and IE GlennOne thing, I noticed, your hard drive is getting full. Windows, to operate correctly needs 15% of a free space. 27MB in your case. You have 17MB. You should free some space.Hi Broni Sorry about the delay, I turned off computer and it froze on opening page when I turned it back on. The page where is says gateway and PRESS F? for bios. I had to use another computer since then and I had no record of the forum. Sorry. I finally got it back on by turning it on and off. When it freezes on that opening page nothing works F5 or ctrl+alt + delete. I can only repeately turn off and on. How about ram? Do I need more? The problem with blank browser is very intermittent and it's liable to happen on any site. One more hint, over a 2 or 3 day period the fan will get going pretty good, so I guess that means too much heat. If I restart it goes back to almost silent. I afraid to turn it off because of the freezing when I turn it back on. PS I have 164 GB of Free Space. Local disk (C:) File System NTFS Free Space 164 GB Total size 181 Thanks and sorry for the delay GlennCan you boot without a problem into Safe Mode? Did you try to download SpeedFan? I cannot download speedfan, I tried everything but the link will not load. When I turn on computer if it freezes at the gateway page I can do nothing but turn it off and on till it boots. When it finally goes past the gateway page I could probably get into safe mode. Another hint I may not have mentioned: I am very slow while doing things offline, like MS Works word loads very slow. Clearing history and such in firefox is slow. Sometimes when I hit start the menu loads from the ctr of the page and goes down, same with other pages. Websites load fast as normal. Thanks Glenn Quote I could probably get into safe mode.We need to know. |
