on start up computer starts check disk, it locks up at 53%. NORTON 360 is installed, locks up when trying trying to clean registry. Virus scan locks up also. Diagnostics show problem with 6 to 4 ADAPTER. Is this a windows problem, or Norton , or possibly hard drive?Norton does interfere with the normal actions of some programs. In particular, Norton will not let some programs LATER the registry. This is a known issue.
Try to boot your computer in safe mode. What happens?

The problems you decide are almost certainly not related to Norton software.
You said the system boots to autocheck which will not complete, is that correct? I'd like you to boot to checkdisk with error correction. In Windows 7 RUN a command prompt as administrator and enter the command chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command window and reboot. If checkdisk does not complete your HD is on the way out.

You want to back up all critical data to off disk media as soon as possible.
