Solve : Share Violation Notice?

Answer»

I have Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600), a Dell Inc. Dimension 4700. Also have IE6, SP2.

When I go to Tools, Internet Options, Settings, and View objects, among the items in there is Hotmail Att… I sometimes go here to update the items in there. The Hotmail shows it as installed but total size is None.

When I try to update it, nothing happens. When I right-click and try to REMOVE it, I get a message box. In the Title Bar it shows Share Violation, and in the box itself it shows: These Program Files are currently being used by one or more programs. Please close some programs and try again. You MAY need to restart Windows.

This has not done this before. But I have done a few restores over the past month, so guess something happened.

Anyone know how I may get rid of that Share Violation notice? Thanks much.
What main goal are you trying to accomplish?

From what I understand, you are trying to remove the Hotmail Object in Internet Explorer. Is this correct?

Solutions:
Core part of IE. Cannot be removed (not an addon)Thank you for your answer.

It is the Hotmail Attachments Control, and I should be able to delete it as I have different times before. I just deleted PC Pit stop okay, as I will not be using it for a while.

As I said, I sometimes update them but since this had None in the Total Size, I knew something was wrong. It would not update, as the rest of them do, and when I try to delete it I get that Violations message.

When I go to Tools, Internet Options, Settings, View Objects, it takes me to the Downloaded Program Files, which is where Hotmail Attachments Control is.

Not sure what is meant by this: "Solutions:
Core part of IE. Cannot be removed (not an addon)"

All items can be removed, generally. Just for some reason, having problems with this one.

Any other solutions?

Good to see you back...been awhile.

Have you tried to remove it in safemode ? ?

Safemode only loads the bare minimum of programs and processes for XP to function.
To get into safemode hit F8 repeatedly as the machine is starting and before you see the Windows logo...

Post back if this doesn't do it.Sometimes the freeware program
UNLOCKER will WORK for deleting.
Below is direct link. Good Luck!

After you install read the...readme file then proceed.
I had tried that once before and got the same Share Violation. Just tried it again and still got the Share Violation message. Thanks for the info, though. It is almost 1:30 AM and I have to scoot to dreamland.

Thank you for the information. I do have Unlocker and use it often. But when I right click on the Hot Mail Attachment, I only get the choices of
Update, Remove, and Properties. It does not give the Unlock choice. Again, when I try to update, it will not do it, and when I try to remove it, I get that Share Violation Message. In the Properties Dependency tab, it shows it as damaged.

Below seems to be the only other solution.
