Solve : shut down problem?

i have use windows 2000 professional operating system
when i press shutdown , computer does not shutdown
please tell me how to solve above problem
Wouldn't you rather just click the buttom and it shut down or UNPLUG it
or this.

You can SAFELY ignore the above advice...

sam when you say you press shutdown do you MEAN in the Shut down Box itself ? ?
What does it say in the drop down box DIRECTLY above the shutdown box ? ?
Down arrow changes the choices...

Also how long have you WAITED for it to shutdown before giving up ? ?

Any new Hardware or Software installed recently ? ?
