Solve : smart hard drive disc A?

I TURNED on my computer windows xp this morning, complete screen had MESSAGE Disc A smart hard drive is bad needs to be replced immediatly? I am very unfamiliar with a smart hard drive and need to know how to rectify this PROBLEM, i am assuming I can and will lose INFO if not replaced, I have a Compaq presario, can you direct me in the right direction? thank youWelcome to the CH forums.

You should update your backup immediately and prepare for drive failure.
