Answer» After defragmenting my 3 drives (c:, D:, and E:), C and D drives defragmented perfectly, but E drive showed after completion of the defragmentation:-
"Defragmentation COMPLETE. Some files of this drive could not be defragmented. View report for more details".
The report for E: drive is below:-
Volume (E:) Volume SIZE = 9.02 GB Cluster size = 4 KB Used space = 7.58 GB Free space = 1.44 GB Percent free space = 15 %
Volume fragmentation Total fragmentation = 11 % File fragmentation = 23 % Free space fragmentation = 0 %
File fragmentation Total files = 277 Average file size = 30 MB Total fragmented files = 20 Total excess fragments = 2,105 Average fragments per file = 8.59
Pagefile fragmentation Pagefile size = 0 bytes Total fragments = 0
Folder fragmentation Total folders = 18 Fragmented folders = 1 Excess folder fragments = 0
Master File Table (MFT) fragmentation Total MFT size = 432 KB MFT record count = 356 Percent MFT in use = 82 % Total MFT fragments = 2

WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW??? I have Win XP.
Files that are opened by programs can not always be fragmented, since, well, heres a metaphor:
When your reading a book, and someone keeps moving the book to the other side of the table, what happens? You have to get up, and move to the other side of the table. If your a program that is reading it, your not going to let go of that book until you are DONE.
Does that make sense? If you really want to defragment more, TRY one of the following: Restart in Safemode, then defragment (I recommend this) Close as many programs as possible (though, some just cant be closed) Ignore it, really, its not the biggest deal on earth, you got the program and system files defragmented, thats the really important stuff.
Thanks for your reply.
Well I have tried this in safe mode, but it is showing the same message there also.
Should i not worry about this (since it is showing total MFT fragements as 2)?
Mass fragmentation causes system performance decrease. Just a few files not fragmented will not cause a problem. I Would not worry about it. I do find it odd that .mpg files are not being defragmented...
Do you have Antivirus installed? You might just run a scan, just to be sure.
