Solve : Some of my icons are going blank?

Answer»

Hi. I've been having this problem recently. I'm on Vista Home Premium 64 bit. For the past couple of days, every time I try updating a program, when the little notification to restart comes up, I'll click restart now or whatever it says, and then 5 or 6 of my desktop shortcuts turn into blank white ICONS with no functionality as well as their counterparts in the start menu along with a few others there too. I have to use system restore to get them back.

I've tried having windows display different sized icons. No dice. I've tried deleting the iconcache.db file in my appdata/local folder and restarting twice. No dice there either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I happened to leave anything out just let me know. bump?  usually thats caused by 2 reasons

1. the location of the program the SHORTCUT is pointing to has changed since the update

2. the icon has been updated and moved so the original icon is left without its functionality

what icons are they. regular programs or windows programs

have you moved anything to a custom location or have you kept the files in the same default place?
