Answer» I am having a terrible time with some Windows updates. They load but will not install. This started several months ago. shortly after I installed Service Pack 3. I don't know if that is just a coincidence, but I thought I should mention it. Most updates do load and install, but these four continually refuse to install...

I have Googled every conceivable solution I have found on the Microsoft website and elsewhere, but nothing works. I'm getting so sick of seeing the same constant updates, and not being able to install them. I'm starting to wonder what good stuff I am missing. Can anyone help with this? Any response is appreciated.

Jason2074, I will give the first a try. I do not remember this page but, I found a solution for registering several .dlls at one time, but it did not work. I don't recall if that .dll was among them. As it will take a day (dial up) to download them again, I will get back to you then. Thanks guys.Well...I think I opened another can of worms. I saw that the common denominator of the updates was the Net Framework 3.5. I decided to follow some advice about trying to download these updates, one at a time, from the Windows Catalog site and to install them from the desktop. When I did, I got a MESSAGE stating that it could not install them because the application they were associated with did not exist on my computer?! (You'd think Microsoft would tell me this in the first place) According to the Add/Remove Program list, the .Net Framework 3.5 is rarely used, but is on my computer. What gives? Can someone give me advise as to what to do next? Perhaps uninstall the Net Framework and reinstall? I'm sure if I can get this Net Framework to be recognized, the updates will install.Make sure all versions of .NET Framework are installed: .NET Framework 1.1 .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
BTW, .NET Framework versions do not supercede each other. Who knows which one it really is looking for.The only one not showing on the add/remove programs list was the Net framework 1.1. I downloaded it, but when I tried to install it, it gave the same message as before, stating that Net Framework was not on my computer. According to the add/remove list, it is. Hoping that it was just turned off, I went to the Windows Components Wizard to check, but it was not even on the list. I am at a loss as to what to do next. I'm told that more programs these days require the Net Framework, so I must have it. Any ideas? Perhaps an operating SYSTEM that works?Remove all of them. Then reinstall them.I GUESS I'll have to try that. It will take awhile on dial-up, so I'll have to get back to you. Thanks guys!Thank god I've found this. It happened to my older pc and I will try the steps outlined here. Thank you!
