Solve : Speaker problem??

Answer»

Hello

I am able to listen to YouTube, but not to hear sound on a DVD (I can see the film/movie, but no sound). I can't hear the radio either.

And advice would be GRATEFULLY received.

This is a NEW PC (tower) Win 7.

Thanks.Did it worked before, on watching DVD disc movies on that desktop? What media software are you using when playing movies?
If you want to check on what could be the problem, I suggest you to go your device manager first and look for any yellow or red flags shown on your audio controllers or adapter. There is also a possibility that your media software volume contorls are turned down or muted. Here is a link for you to check on whether you need to check other audio options -> How to troubleshoot audio issues in Windows 7 and Vista
You might also wanna try another free popular media software -> VLC PlayerHi,

While installing sound drivers on your laptops the first and the most important thing that you will have to consider is its compatibility. A sound driver that you choose needs to be compatible with your PCs Operating System and the sound card installed on your Laptop. Then, in case if you fail to choose the right driver, the installation will fail and you will not get the expected quality. Thus, while downloading drivers from the website try to download the drivers that are compatible with your systems sound card.
Thanks for your replies.

Yes, it might be a driver problem - it's just odd that I can listen to YouTube, but not the radio and not a DVD.

I have checked the CP - it all looks ok.

Thanks again.

What program are you using to play the DVD? Have you checked the volume control in that program?

Can you hear system sounds, like the windows startup sound?hello

Thanks again.

I can't hear anything. It's like watching a silent movie.

The PC is 3 weeks old with Win 7 and 300GB of memory.

The speakers work OK, in principle, otherwise I wouldn't be able to listen to YouTube.

I am attaching 2 screen shots if that helps.

The DVD is bought - not a pirate - and part of a set: well-known film.

Thanks for your time.

[regaining space - ATTACHMENT DELETED by admin]In your movie player, do you see the speaker icon? It's right above DVD. I've pointed it out with the red arrow here

Click there and see if you can turn the volume up.

If that doesn't work, download vlc player. Get it here:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

See if that program can play your movie with sound.

If you do get vlc player, that other movie player might open by default when you put the DVD into the COMPUTER. If it does, close that window when it opens. To open it with the vlc player, click on the start orb in the lower left corner of your computer's screen. Click on computer and then find the DVD drive in the window that opens. Right click on it, go to open with and choose vlc player.

Good luck.
