Answer» On page 2 some of you helped Tripgirl with a problem that sounds very similar to mine. I have a HP zv5000 laptop, XP HE 2002 SP2, P4 3.20 Ghz 896 mb Ram. When I log-in and I get to the blue screen I have a big black box that says spyware infection in big orange letters then goes on to TELL me there is a spyware infection and windows advises me to use a spyware removal tool. I have run microsofts antispyware program and downloaded spyware doctor and run it also, to no avail, I can't get rid of this warning on my screen. I think I understood some of what was SUGGESTED, I just don't want thrash all my progams and have to start over. I could use some help with this. :-?wm49..... Ok ..... Before we start , you should do the following ...... Turn off your SYSTEM restore feature until we get this issue under control.... To do this ..... click START /Control Panel/ make sure its displaying the Classic view ...then select System .........then click the System Restore tab ..... then PUT a check mark in the box in front of ....turn off system restore on all drives ....click apply and ok ...... then exit back to desktop .........
Next reboot into safe mode ...... To do this ...as the system is beginning to reboot ....repeatedly tap the F8 key ..... you will then see a menu offering you various ways to start ....choose ..... SAFE mode ......... and press enter . It will load ...... andyou will see the word safe in the 4 corners of your screen ........
Once it has loaded....open your anti virus program and do a full system scan ...... If anything is found ....record what it was and then have your AV delete it ......
When the AV scan has finished ....... It wouldnt hurt to run your antispyware Beta ....... and again if anything is found ....record what it was and let the program delete it ......
Now reboot and it will come back up in normal mode ......... See how things are .......
let us know ....

performed the functions you said too but the box is still there. Went to safe mode and when it finished loading I tried to access my IP AV but would not open so I opened AV BETA first. When it finished, I opened the other one and ran it. I then deleted all viruses and spyware, but no luck with the black box. wm49... Ok .... what were the nasties found ?
Those names may take us to the next step ..... So you never ran a virus scan from safe mode then ..... Is that correct ?
