Answer» im running windows xp, and as of about 30 minutes ago, my explorer crashed and wont re-open on my administrator user account on my home PC. it will load as far as the desktop, but explorer will not launch, and i cant even use Task Manager to manually launch explorer, or any other program.
curve ball, explorer launches if i switch user accounts to my guest account, but the start menu/tool bar and my desktop ICONS blink in and out, like explorer is trying to restart itself. I am still unable to launch other programs from the Guest user account, making system restore and my control panel unaccessible, along with any virus scanners or security programs.Do you get any errors?
Also have you TRIED doing this through safe mode?no error messages, and booting in safe mode yields the same results. first time ive ever seen or heard of anything like this.Have you tried creating a new User account to see if it works properly ? ? If it does you will need to REPAIR the existing accounts.i cant access the control panel, so i cant reach the add user features.Try clicking Start, Run, TYPE: compmgmt.msc and press enter. This should open the Computer Management window that will allow you to get to Local Users and Groups. In there you can right-click and create a new user.No dice. Do you have a Windows XP CD ? ? If so go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter... Have the CD handy as it will ASK for it. Let it run to completion and re-boot.
