Solve : Start Windows 7 without password?

Answer»

I ran a search here on the Forum for start WINDOWS 7 without password, disable windows 7 password prompt and bypass windows 7 logon and didn't find an answer. I have tried run> control userwpasswords2 and unchecked "User must enter a username and password to use this computer", then clicked apply, typed in my password at the prompt, restarted the computer and no such luck. It still requires me to sign in. I tried to select Homegroup User$ and it won't allow me to. does anyone know of a registry tweak for this?This didn't work for you?

It finally did work. For some odd reason I had to re-check REQUIRE password, reboot, uncheck it, reboot, recheck it and reboot several times in order for it to take. Thankfully Windows 7 now starts without prompting for a password!I tried this link without results.  Any ideas where else I can go?Although I'm not a big fan of major necroposting, this is relevant, so...

Alternative method to the above link:

1) Open up the registry (Windows key + R, type in regedit and click OK)
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
3) EDIT the following:

AutoAdminLogon = 1
DefaultUsername = type in the username here.
DefaultPassword = type in the password here.  If you don't see this value, right-click ANYWHERE in the right-hand pane, left-click "New," then "String value".  Call it "DefaultPassword" and then put your password there.

If you're on a domain, you'll have to add the string value "DefaultDomain" as well and type in its name.

4) Reboot.  It will automatically attempt to log in with the credentials you put in the registry (and will encrypt the DefaultPassword value for security reasons).

To override the autologin, begin holding SHIFT while the Windows 7 splash screen is up, and don't let go until you get your logon screen again.  This will not work with USB KEYBOARDS for some reason...
