Solve : Starting Windows XP in Safe Mode?

Answer»

I have four PCs in my home using Windows XP (2 Laptops and 2 Desktops); one with XP Pro, One with XP MCE, two with XP Home. I know the following issue applies to three of them (probably all four): When I attempt to startup in Safe Mode, and reach the "Advanced" options menu, "Start Normally" is highlighted, and the keyboard ARROW KEYS DO NOT WORK to move the highlight to "Safe Mode". Since this is happening with several PCs, all using WinXP, I wonder if it is an Operating System fault (maybe resulting from the ALMOST daily automatic updates), or if perhaps there are new instructions for opening in Safe Mode (maybe NOT clicking f8). Can anyone tell me how to successfully get into safe mode with all versions of XP? Thank you.Are you using USB KEYBOARDS? Try real PS/2 keyboards on a few of the machines and see if that makes any difference.

Are these all real XP CD's involved? The keyboards on the two Desktop PCs are wireless, with USB receivers; one Dell and one Logitech. The other two PCs are Laptops, with built in keyboards; one Compaq and one HP. All of the Operating SYSTEMS came installed on the PCs, with legitimate CD backups (not yet used).Try pressing the Num Lock key to turn the numbers lock off, and see if the arrow keys work then.
