Answer» does anyone know how long should it take for startup and shutdown in windows 7 ? in other words what is the normal time for it 5 second,10secs etc.
thanks, chrisIt really depends on your hardware and what you have loading at startup other than the OS. For a basic install with just Windows 7 on semi-modern hardware with a HDD, I'd expect somewhere around 30-60 seconds. With an SSD, probably 5-15 seconds. Once you have all your software installed and probably some programs loading at startup and running in the background like antivirus, with a HDD I'd expect 60+ seconds, with an SSD 10-30 seconds. Shutdown times would be around the same but again will vary. Of course if you're running a machine with a slow HDD that barely meets the minimum requirements for Windows 7, then you could be looking at SEVERAL minutes, or if you have a motherboard that takes a long time to pass POST then that could add 20 or even 30 seconds to yourt overall boot time, so the above is really just a very rough estimate at best.
For reference, my machine (jn my specs if you hover over "Specs" on the left) takes around 30 seconds from hitting the power button to fully loading Windows 7 and being ready to start programs like Firefox or Office. My board takes a while to pass POST and I have a fair few programs running at startup (8 to be exact).thanks for the reply just I was wondering because my comp with anew overhaul I did of ram and hdd new partition and windows 7 my start and shutdown time is about 10 seconds but to event LOGS eyes I still get warning messages for startup and shutdown is this normal or is the event log a bunch of crapWhat messages do you get in the event log?Mine is 28 seconds...
And i actually never knew that...i turn on the PC and go make coffee so i don't care about startup times...actually my mistake in typing my comp is 20 seconds for shutdown and startup and the event log is always warning error 100 and 200 it says slow boot time and shutdown time. its really annoying SEEMS like event log is never happy. 1) Stay out of the event log. 2) Forgive me for asking, but what possible difference does it make how long it takes your system to boot or shut down? Does it work properly once it boots? If so, I suggest you move on look allen I spent a lot of time rebuilding this comp which works perfect I might add and you being a guru and all I am sure you would go back to everything and check that all is good maybe 2 times maybe 3 times to make sure you didn't miss something. I asked a simple question as to what is the normal startup time and shutdown time for a comp. I googled for the answer came up with nothing. I am really just wondering about the event log but I am really not paying to much mind to it. also it does make a difference as to how long it takes boot and shutdown. I really don't want to turn on my comp and sit there for 2 to 3 minutes waiting for it to boot up. because if that was the case I would be asking a different question.Allan is right. But for what it is worth, here is what mine does. About 30 seconds to shut down , if nothing is pending. To stat up takes about 60 for the BIOS to do the POST and t hen almost 89 for Windows to load and do the start up TEAKS. This is on an older desktop ruining XP. Windows 8.1 does almost the same. I think. Not enough difference to bother timing it. thanks geek-9pm all I really asked for is some kind of time frame I am running at start to shutdown a every time 21 seconds to be exact. that's all I wanted to know thankyou
