Solve : Strange Desktop/Taskbar behavior.?

Answer»

Hello. I have a strange little anomaly occurring right now. I have posted a screenshot below in CASE it may help. You'll SEE at the lowest left corner of the desktop, the pages minimize there when they're supposed to minimize to the taskbar. Strange behavior. Is there a fix other than System RESTORE? This has happened a few times in the past several months.

What pages are those ? ?
Where is the location of the taskbar ? ?

The taskbar is missing, possibly because explorer crashed.

OP: try to start task manager, and use that to run explorer. Have you recently installed any software? It might also be prudent to check for malware (run through the guide here, post the requisite log files on this board, and wait for an expert.

piece of trivia: Without Explorer or an equivalent shell to take control of window management, all windows will minimize as child windows of the desktop (as they would normally without Explorer's interference). The default desktop behaviour is to iconize running programs (this is unchanged from NT 3.1, probably). However, Windows 95/NT4 and later don't actually turn them into icons anymore, instead making them small "folded" windows, as can be seen in the OP's screenshot.

The pages were Google, C:\ and Outlook Express.

The taskbar was hidden below (set to "Auto-hide").

The cat is Mr. Bitchen.

I opened up task manager and stopped the instance of Explorer that was running, then started a new one. That fixed it. Thank you guys for your help. It was really annoying.
