2.00 GB of RAM. Norton 360.(up to Date). Have REAL window xp pro CD. 300 Gb hard drive (seagate)

Hello to any one that can help
my problem started when I was burning a CD (from windows media player) the computer shut down and restarted to the Blue screen (CHKDSK) after it went through it three steps to check Hard Drive, it found the following problem. Corrupt Attribute Record (128,"") computer started up like normal. tried to burn Cd again, same thing happen. then restarted normal. so I decided to do a MANUAL restart. when I did, Computer started with all my saved files, music, and all personal setting gone,(computer was at new computer stage, like when you first put new system on. needless to say HORROR! HORROR! HORROR!. But now for the strange part, all of my software is still on computer but I can not save any thing. when I restart, it starts like new again, any changes I make are lost. on the start up window, I get the following Message: can not fine personal profile, will sign with temporary setting but all data will be lost.
computer works find as long as I don't turn anything off. I am looking for any input before I reinstall XP

Personal notes: I BUILT this computer myself in 2006 have not had any problems until now. I am knowledgeable about problems but this is a first for me. I upgrade all the time. this may be a problem. Help.
What burning app ? ?
Is Norton (shudder) GoBack included in your package and turned on ? ?I was burning a music disk.Great.
That ANSWERS neither of the questions...Window media player was the burning app. I had all of my music on windows music player. and was making copy of music. Ok. And no this copy of norton does not have the back up. Quote
