Solve : Stuck Constantly Zooming In/Out?

Answer»

Hi,

I have a Vista 32-bit with Core 2 DUO and Geforce 8600GT and 2 GB DDR2 RAM, although I'm not sure how important this is for my problem...

My PC had been working fine until a little while ago.  When I got on, I got onto Google Chrome (my main web browser) and everything automatically zoomed as far out as possible.  So I reset it to normal but it did the same thing.  I went to other tabs, made new tabs, and reopened the browser but it kept zooming out automatically whenever I would reset it.  So I go to the desktop, and all the icons automatically resized themselves to smallest possible, even when I reset them to their normal SIZES.  I then opened both IE and Firefox and they both actually automatically zoomed IN whenever I scrolled down.  I opened MICROSOFT Word and it zoomed out to 10% automatically and no matter what size I set it to it would keep going back out.  I have no idea what could be causing this but if you could find a solution that would be great. Thanks

Alan <><  No it is not a problem with Chrome, it happens to all my internet browsers and MS Word and even the desktop icons.  There is something also weird with the keyboard, the left control key does not work (i.e. if you press left CTRL + C it just types c instead of copying) but sometimes if I am just typing, the keys act as if the CTRL key was pressed. Hey! I wonder if that could be the problem!
[/sarcasm]Since most browsers as well as the desktop use Control+Scrollwheel to zoom in/out it stands to reason that the "control" key problem might be related to the zoom issue.

It would appear that the keyboard is broken... but, first try running in safe mode or uninstalling any keyboard related utility programs you use (if any). After that, try a new/another keyboard.I'd still clean the mouse as well... Quote from: patio on June 13, 2010, 08:50:41 AM
I'd still clean the mouse as well...

couldn't hurt, especially since the zoom function in most cases requires the scroll wheel in addition to the control key. Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 13, 2010, 08:51:55 AM

Oh yeah...

no no I don't think it has something to do with the moush.  It automatically resizes if I don't touch the mouse at all.

Just for ****s and giggles, unplug the mouse and see if it still happens.

Also...I'm thinking keyboard as well if the keys Salmon Trout mentioned are stuck or if a PS/2 keyboard is being used with the connector pins bent or broken...
