Solve : system recovery-help!? |
|
Answer» RECENTLY i had problems with Win.xp,,,,, friend repaired computer and installed xp-pro in place of xp-home. Now i have lost a lot of factory installed programs. Original manual for comp.says there are no recovery discs because of built in program to reinstall all lost programs. Problem is-- xp-pro only seems to have system restore not system recovery. Will system restore bring programs back or have i lost them forever?Well, your friend put an OS on your computer that we can't support. That is called piracy. What you can do to remedy this is to call the manufacturer of your computer and ask them to send you the disks for that machine. They are rumored to charge for this, but I've never been charged for it, or seen anyone else charged for it. They want your BUSINESS, so it's not really in their best interest to not send them to you. This will put back the computer back to its original state. lets assume the disk was legal (we dont know that) how is it piracy if they installed it from a legal disk? "Recently i had problems with Win.xp,,,,, friend repaired computer and installed xp-pro in place of xp-home." Quote how is it piracy if they installed it from a legal disk? Because it's not meant for that computer, and his key would not work from that disk, so the key was copied.its unlikly but possabe that maybe hask007's friend had a non installed disk laying around and installed it with a valid unused key that ould not be piracyTell your friend in case he doesn't realise it that a re-install of Windows wipes out all installed apps and data...THANKS for the input guy's! will try to CONTACT compaq, about getting recovery discs since that is the only option i've been given on this post so far.Is this all i can do?You would be surprised at how easy this will be. This is the best thing you can do.Quote from: smeezekitty on August 23, 2009, 06:01:10 PM its unlikly but possabe that maybe hask007's friend had a non installed disk laying aroundYeah, I'm sure that's exactly what happened...Right. we all know it was illegal i just said suppose if there was an unused disk then it would be legal |
