Solve : system recovery problems? |
|
Answer» So My computer became infected so much, that while running avast antivirus, I deleted some programs and files, I don't know which ones where they were. Anyway the computer became so infected that did what normally do.I ran a destructive system recovery, but I kept getting a blue screen,I don't remember what it said. So I used my windows recovery cds,I follow the instructions, but when it's at the recovery percent screen, it said "i386/system32/restore.exe not found"and gave the options abort or retry, well retry didn't work, so i put abort. it then ask are you sure, i put no, and then it asked for the next cd and it followed the same procedure until it got to 80%, it started to say that some applications and program(they come with system, like windows media player, movie maker, etc.)couldnt be recovered, all you could do is press ok, and then another one pops up saying another application couldnt be recovered. it did like 30 times, than finally stops at 90%and continues normally and restarts. But now the maindesktop wont APPEAR and the computer keeps booting up and it flashes a blue screen very fast. i tried system recovery again but same problem. my system is a windows xp home edition and same thing with the recovery cds their home editions. any help is much appreciated! BTW i cant access that computer, it wont let me. the computer i'm using to post this is different. Sounds like the CD is dirty or scratched. Try polishing it. If you have another CD drive, try to swapping it in there. It could be that the drive is dirty.Quote from: JJ 3000 on September 05, 2009, 11:37:19 PM Sounds like the CD is dirty or scratched. I just need one cd, the others work. I don't mind downloading the cd. the cd is an hp pavillion home pc, system recovery windows xp home edition disc 1 it was released 2001. thanks 1. See if HP will send you one for a "nominal" fee. Not sure how far back they'll go to support their computers. I've seen links on their web site where you can order the CDs. Start at http://www.hp.com and drill down through support links until you find something like Looking for Recovery Discs? A word to the wise... You're going to have to do better than "It's an HP Pavilion..." A complete MODEL number requires more information, e.g "Pavilion 6736 kr". 2. Option 2 is to use a "retail" Windows XP Installation CD and worry about picking up the correct DRIVERS for your motherboard and peripherals. If you buy a "legitimate" CD, it should come with valid product key. If you borrow one, you'll have to call Microsoft, convince them you have a valid OEM license (CERTIFICATE of Authentication and Product Key), and ask for a new product key that will pass activation. |
