Solve : System Restore won`t work?

Answer»

Hi Everyone

Can you help me ? Each time I try to use my system restore and set to a previous time (with bold date shown) the machine goes through the sequence but then sayes it did not make any changes. Could it be that the system resore is switched off if so can someone tell me how to switch it on.

Many ThanksUnfortunately System Restore has always been buggy at best. I've always been a strong proponent of disk imaging software. I use Acronis True Image, but there are a number of good free alternatives.Enable System Restore

I tend to agree with Allan on this one however...i also use Acronis.

But Here you will find my recent Review on Macrium Reflect if you need a FREE solution for backups...

Good Luck.
A good freeware alternative for Windows System Restore is a registry backup program called ERUNT [Emergency Recovery Utility NT]. http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
It’s quick and easy to run before you install an app or a Windows update or whenever, in case anything goes wrong. Google it and read a couple reviews.

It saves backups in a folder in C:\WINDOWS\. Navigate there and run ERDNT.EXE to restore.
I’ve used it a few TIMES to correct some minor glitches and it SEEMS to do the trick. Has anyone else used it?

ERUNT is a great app and many of us here have not only used it but recommended it as well...
However to say it's an alternative to System Restore is a bit misleading as all ERUNT backs up is the registry...not important Windows system files...

Nonetheless a good reccomendation.Quote from: TonyT on August 16, 2009, 05:06:03 AM

Do you have Norton Antivirus? If so look here:

I uninsulated it and things are now fine, If you also have Zone Alarm it might be worth trying?1. Safe Mode. Perform the system RESTORATION from "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with COMMAND Prompt". Safe Mode loads a minimal set of software (and drivers), so there's LESS chance of interference from third party software (particularly security software).

To invoke system restore from a command prompt, enter the following string (without the quotes): "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe"

Warning: When restoring a system from Safe Mode an Undo restore point will NOT be created!

So... Before booting to "Safe Mode", create a restore point of the machine's current state (in case you want to return to that state).
