Solve : System32 drivers - failure to boot.?

Answer»

Hello All.
I got an HP tower, P4 and successfully installed windows XP on to it. I had an issue installing the driver for the built in network card and on a reboot I found that the windows failes to load. It reads "Windows cannot stsrt because - system 32\DRIVERS\pci.sys is MISSING"
It said place original CD in drive and press r at first screen, in an attempt to repair. This fails to work and I get a blue screen with error code 7 or 4 on it.

Any ADVISE is welcome.I am not super familiar with hp,,, I do have instructions for my son's hp pc, which is an hp pavilion. Do u have the instructions for win INSTALL? If it were me i'd try to hit the f key to format and recover. If prompted try to recover from discs... some of the information in the rocovery partition may be corrupt. Good luck. hope this will help!Where is your HP Driver CD ? ?
The correct drivers will be on it.
If you are getting errors you may need to re-install the chipset drivers as well. Thanks for your help but after a couple of reboots - it worked and I don't know why.I don't either...but it's good news.and we can cautiously ASSUME it's a once in a blue-moon experience.
