Hello, my name's Matt and I'm new to CH.  Anyway, when I add up all of the processes that taks manager lists, it doesn't even come close to the total that task manager gives under the performance tab.  Why is this?  Where can I find a list of every process that my computer is running?  I'm running VISTA on a HP Pavilion laptop.  I have 2 GB of RAM and a 2.2 Ghz Dual-Core processor.  Vista is using 928 MB of memory just to run-where is it all going?Several tools are better, then TM: Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Autoruns...Just Google them.Keep in mind that Vista handles memory differently...it's designed to use what's available.
Many see this as it being a memory hog...not true. It's just designed differently.
So all the notions on memory prior to Vista should be thrown out...The task manger is does not lie. There is a button on the bottom that says "Show processes from all users." It has a shield next to it INDICATING that it requires administrator rights. If you are an administrator you can click continue and you will have the entire list of processes.Thanks for the info everyone.
