Solve : Task Scheduler service disappeared from the Services list?

Answer»

I use Windows-XP PRO. Task Scheduler SERVICE generates problems with almost every Windows version now and in past years as well, as you can see with search engines on Internet. Typical cases are:
- The service is not running
- Task Scheduler is "not installed as a service".

In my case both issues are true. On forums, a specific error code is 0x80041315 mentioned very often. This is also my case.

I discovered the following issues :
- TASK SCHEDULER service does not appear in the list of services.
- One registry key is  missing :    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule.

I have no recent backup of the key.
I found the key on internet at several websites. Most websites are showing the same basic contents ; probably the original native contents installed from the Windows CD.

I imported the key to replace the one missing in the Register.
I used following FILE.reg. Double clicking on it,  imported the key with success to the Register:

=======================FILE.reg=========================
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule]
=====================================================

After that, I exported the newly created key. As you can see in the exported key, a new subkey "Enum" had been added by Windows. This a good sign because the created key was been recognized by the system.

==================Exported Key "Schedule"===================
Key Name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule
Class Name:
Last Write Time:   2/26/2010 - 4:14 PM
Value 0
Name:            Start
Type:            REG_DWORD
Data:            0x2

Key Name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule\Enum
Class Name:
Last Write Time:   2/26/2010 - 4:14 PM
Value 0
Name:            0
Type:            REG_SZ
Data:            Root\LEGACY_SCHEDULE\0000

Value 1
Name:            Count
Type:            REG_DWORD
Data:            0x1

Value 2
Name:            NextInstance
Type:            REG_DWORD
Data:            0x1
==============End of Exported Key "Schedule"==================

However this action (importing the key) is not enough to make the Task Scheduler
appear back again on the list of the other Services. As long as this service is not back on the Services list, I don't know how to make it start either.

How can I bring this service back to life ?
I WELCOME any advice. Thank you.
Schedule key seems to be more complex, than that.
This is how it looks on my Vista (I'll try in a moment to see, how it looks on my XP):

Thanks very much Broni.
I guess that importing your key "just as it is" can't harm functionality, since anyway there  is none anyway here on my system.

I will consider this.
I suppose that the only thing I need to do for that is to paste your entire text [within the quoted area] into a file  "whatever-filename.reg" ... and doubleclick on it ?

(but adding at the TOP 2 mandatory LINES shown just before the Quote area, of which the second line must be empty)

Maybe I will wait a little longer, in case more information would come along about the issue.Yes, I put a "quote" wrap in a wrong place.
Create fresh restore point first.

Importing your Register Key and a reboot did the job.
Task Scheduler service is back in the Services list with status  "Started"

Of course I got an immediate attempt from M$ to install additional crap
Internet Explorer 7/8 RSS Support – MSFEEDSSYNC.EXE which I really don't need.
WinPatrol's watchdog Scotty however was on Patrol !

But the fact that I got the warning message from WinPatrol confirms that the service  was back in business. I expect that next step (making tasks run on schedule) will be no problem, but I have to check on that.

Thank you again very much.

Post-scriptum : Can we edit the TOPIC title to add the word [Solved] in front ??
That would be nice because I didn't find a working solution elsewhere in Google search results, for exactly the same issue.

I have no idea why and when this service disappeared in the first place.
 I'm glad, things worked out
