Answer» Well first here is some info you might need This is what I have:
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Compaq Presario 06 System Model: DA238A-ABA 6450NX NA910 BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.53GHz Memory: 512MB RAM Page File: 324MB used, 925MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode
First is there a difference between taskbar & toolbar? The one Im talking about today is at the bottom of my computer screen.
I run McAfee virus scans, Spybot Search & Destroy and Spysweeper once a week. And I have had no virus's or problems. My Temp. Internet files are emptied about every other day. And cookies maybe a couple times a month.
For about three weeks now Ive been having this problem. While online and surfing I open site pages and they open fine (well maybe slower than usual LOL) and in the taskbar it also shows the page Im on. That I know it is supposed to happen. When I do more than one page I minimize.
So Im online and I start closing pages. Xing them out/closed. BUT A LOT of the time after I have closed the page it stays in the taskbar. I click on it and nothing happens, it doesnt open again. Because Ive already closed it. So I have to RIGHT click my mouse to close it. BUT that doesnt work either. So I have to open my Task Manager and FINALLY close it that way. And then an error report is sent, something about the failing to close. I forget.
I have no idea what to do about this. Can anyone help me? Please?
Thanks
John Are all your SCANNERS up to date?
The taskbar is the bar on the right of the Windows start button. Do you have any toolbars (Such as Google search, Yahoo search, etc) installed in Internet Explorer?
Why are you using Internet Explorer? Switch to Firefox and get tabbed browsing..
Try using Crap Cleaner(Click) to clean the registry and RESET your Internet Explorer advanced settings to their default status.

Hi Raptor, ok when you say scanners do you mean my drivers? How do I check that?
YES I have a Google toolbar and a Yahoo toolbar. I forgot to mention I use Ccleaner almost daily.
How do I reset my IE settings to default?
And I was planning on trying Firefox. Thanks.

No, I mean your anti-virus and spyware scanners (McAfee, Adaware and Spybot S&D) Your drivers should be up to date as well, but they are not related to this problem so you can let them rest for now.
Try uninstalling both toolbars to see if that makes the problem go away, you can always reinstall them later on but I advise against doing so. Toolbars tend to make browsers unstable.
You can reset your IE settings to default by taking the following steps:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced
Clean your cache, cookies and history as well.
