Answer» My son has a 3 year old Dell Laptop with Windows XP. WITHOUT a taskbar he can't shut the computer down properly. A picture takes up the whole screen. He can use 'ctl, alt, del' to get at the task manager but not the task bar. That's all I know. Thanks.You need to do a search for 'Taskbar and start menu'. On there you should be able to click on 'lock the taskbar' and 'taskbar always on top' I'm using Vista so not that up on XP but similar set up. That should sort it.Do you see the desktop icons at all? Also for the same reason explorer hasn't run and hasn't made the screen-sized invisible listview control that it then subclasses and intercepts mouse clicks to show the menu you describe.
