Answer» MY first post on this forum, so HI all!
RIGHT. Im currently having an annoying issue with my XP desktop. It quite commonly refuses to start up when I turn it on. IT behaves like this: Press the power switch, and the light comes on and the fans whir up - but then it doesnt make the usual dual beep noise it usually does just before loading with the Dos like SCREEN before loading XP. It just sits in that docile state, with the monitor not receiving a signal at all. The only solution is to pull the plug and try again. The funny thing is though that it only happens some of the time, perhaps about 1/2 of the time - the rest of the time it starts completely normally.
The specs I can remember are below, but can post more if required:
Medion Desktop PC XP Proffesional 1.8Ghz Dual Core Intel 2GB Ram Nvidia Geforce 8400 GPU
Any ideas you may have that could help solve this issue would be fantastic!! Thanks! Welcome to CH.
How old is the mother board? Hi,
Not very - perhaps 2 years?? Given a little more time I could find out the exact spec of the motherboard, could post that up later today if it would help. What part of the motherboard do you think could cause such a problem?BORROW a known good PSU of the same or GREATER wattage and swap it in there to see if that's the culprit...Start with the basics, check all connections out side and in side the computer. It could be something as simple as a loose plug.
