Solve : the 34 minute windows xp install hang?

Answer»

Hi, I'm stuck at the 34minute point(last time was 33minutes to) during the XP recovery process where its installing devices.

I'm looking for solutions. The harddrive had windows on it and a bunch of files but it stopped booting when I carried it over to another motherboard with SIGNIFICANTLY different hardware(new mobo, graphics, ram, processor etc.) the old mobo locked me out of my system due to a stuck keyboard error.

Tried recovery console and used the bootcfg /rebuild command, didn't work. Tried the fixmbr command and it gave me a warning that my partitions may not be accessible if its done and since I don't want to lose the files I have in 3 volumes on the harddrive I didn't go through with it. I'm thinking of trying fixboot c: command but I wanna know will it DELETE all the important files I have on that volume?

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be APPRECIATED.
Specs just incase:
Motherboard: PcChips P17G/1333
Chipset: 945GC Northbridge & ICH7 Southbridge
Processor: Pentium Dual Core 5200
Ram: Kingston DDR 2 800mhz(I think it'll run at 667mhz due to the motherboard having that maximum)
VIDEO: Currently using the motherboard's integrated graphics.

Currently tinkering with bios settings but to no avail.Let me get this right. You are trying a repair install to a Windows installation which was done on, essentially, a different computer. It has hung twice at the same (significant) stage of the process. Don't you think that this may be nature's way of telling you that this bird won't fly?

I don't think the fixboot thing would damage the files but you are going to have to reinstall Windows from scratch so maybe you should bite the bullet.
