Sorry about my other guide, I had accidentally hit enter before I even started! ANYWAY, this guide is for cleaning, updating, and treating your computer. I will explain what you need to KNOW. If I missed a point, just leave a responce...

- Cleaning:
If your PC is EXTREMELY slow, there is a common fix... cleaning!
- Disk Defragmenter:
To access disk defragmenter, click Start > All Programs (XP) > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter
1) Click "Analyze" 2) If need to be defraged, a "This volume needs to be defragmented" Will come up. 3) Click Defragment 4) This will put the necessary files back to where they are meant to be, hence giving more drive space, and a smoother computer.
- Disk Cleanup:
To access Disk Cleanup, click Start > All Programs (XP) > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup
1) It may take a few minutes to calculate the various parameter's. 2) When Disk Cleanup comes up, put a check mark by all the choices and click OK. 3) It may take a few minutes to complete the various commands. 4) In the end you will have more drive space, and a better computing WORLD.

- Updating:
So, you've done all this, but have you updated your PC? Most likely. But heh... I'll tell you again.
- Automatic Updates:
To turn on automatic updates:
Go to Start > Control Panel > (If your not in classic view, do so now) > Security Center
1) Under the "Manage security setting's for:" > Click Automatic Updates 2) Choose your own setting's, personally, I choose "Automatic"
Automatic Updates will update your system periodically. Depending on the setting's you choose it will react in different way's. This will keep you up to date of service packs, malware protection, bug fixes, and many other glorious things.
- Updating Your Service Pack Manually:
Use ONE of the following link's to install Service Pack 1, 2, or 3
Service Pack 1:

Service Pack 2:

Service Pack 3:

To see what Service Pack you have installed do the following:
Go to Start > My Computer > "View System Information" > Then look for Service Pack.

- Protecting:
In the modern day and age, there are idiotic time wasters called "Hackers" You know about them. Well, you need to be protected! Download one of the following free of payment anti-spyware programs:
Free:
free.avg.com/ (Pretty Worthless) http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html(Great!) http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/download_avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html(Not sure) _______________________________________ __________________________________
Are you not sure what to do when a windows file goes bad? For instance system32.dll? Then your in luck! This is what you'll need:
1) The Windows Installation CD
That's All!
Go to Start > Run > "sfc /scannow"
1) The "Windows File Checker" screen will appear after a moment or two. Let it look for the corrupted files. Once it does, it will ask for the Windows Installation CD. 2) Insert the disk and follow the instructions.
