Answer» Hello, I "did" reference a prior post regarding this, however, the symptoms and system and responses were not quite applicable or consistent w/ my issues , so, I hope that I can get some clarity and assistance more relative to what I'm experiencing. I've also read extensively the posting guidelines, and have done my best to make this easy for you to HELP me , and I am hopeful that I've posted this in the proper forum ? Just over a week ago, an error message began popping up at startup, on desktop, before loading desktop icons, etc, BUT then also during web browsing. *** The Error message came up titled as:"svchost.exe - Application Error", then the message read: "The instruction at "0xffbadd11" referenced memory at "0xffbadd11". The memory could not be "read". Then, under that: "Click on OK to terminate program" The only things I can recall different in the past 2 weeks is, 2 updates/downloads about 4 days prior to first error message:
Java update Free Studio 5 download (to download audio music from youtube)
Almost immediately after Free Studio had been downloaded, the computer began running much slower, and a message popped up down in the right corner in the form of a little yellow pop-up /notification message. I know that I SHOULD have , but I didn't pay a whole lot of attn to it. Something regarding low memory......? But then I didn't see the "0xffbadd11" Error Message pop-up until 4 days later when I started up, the Error Message pops up, the desktop does not load until I click "OK" or X out the box. Then It seems to run "ok", but still slower than a couple of wks ago and prior. Last nite I updated, then ran AVG full virus scan. "No Infections Found". I then updated and ran Malware Bytes, again, result "No virus found". ***Now, just a few days ago, ANOTHER error message has ALSO been popping up sporadically : The instruction at "0x6c6c642e" referenced memory at "0x6c6c642e". The memory could not be "read"..... though not as frequent, nor at startup as the "0xffbadd11" message still does. I WOULD TRULY APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE IN BEGINNING TO SOLVE THIS ERROR MESSAGE/GET MY MACHINE BACK UP TO SPEED My skills would be considered more than a beginner, somewhat FAMILIAR w/ following instructions on how to troubleshoot. MS Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3 Intel ® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.OOGHz 1.99 GHz 1.00 GB of RAM Thank you in advance, SOOooo much for your assistance, and feel free to inquire as to any other info that I could provide..... and HAVE A HAPPY AND WARM HOLIDAYS!!!! Low memory... You have only 1 GB of RAM and an old Pentium 4 CPU. If you mean this Free Studio: http://download.cnet.com/Free-Studio/3000-2170_4-205258.html, which is an immense memory hog, I can immediately see why your computer is starting to lag. Consider adding more RAM, and if you happen to have an LGA775 version of the P4, upgrade to the Core 2 Duo. Make sure that no unnecessary programs are in your Startup folder. The svchost.exe issues may have been caused by an incomplete/corrupt Windows Update. http://www.ehow.com/how_4480978_fix-application-error-windows-xp.htmlThx x-fusion, for the reply and advice. 1) I'm already maxed out at 1gb of Mem (per crucial scan). I'm on dell dim 2350, circa turn of the century. 2) Yes, you're correct that Free Studio is what I'd downloaded. I've since un-installed it. 3) I could not notice for sure, but I did not see anything "unnecessary" that lept out at me in Startup folder. 4) I followed the LINK to fix the "svchost.exe" issues, but as i got to Step 5, "Click on the Start button to enable..." it got interrupted 1st by the aforementioned "0xffbadd11" message, then again by "Could not start... Error 999", and then AGAIN by "Error 1053". Any other ideas at this stage? Should I attempt to proceed anyway, even though I get the error messages as I'm trying to Start the services?
Thanks SO much for any assistance, options, info, suggestions etc that you may be able to provide.More errors are popping up at this point... I suggest you follow this guide to start Windows in a "clean boot" state: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 Quote If your computer is not starting normally, or if you receive errors when you start your computer that you cannot identify, you could consider performing a "clean boot." This operation starts the computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This can help you troubleshoot the problem.
