Solve : ThinkVantage Rescue and recovery 3.0?

Answer»

My Lenovo 3000 j series crashed and when I turn it on, it says "The following file is missing or corrupt: \ WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. I have a RESCUE and Recovery system that can restore the operating system but when I BOOT into that it prompts me for a password but I don't have a password on my user accounts in windows XP, yet under the user name in Rescue and Recovery it has my Windows Xp user name in the Box already and tells me to put my password in to authenticate my machine. However I don't have a password on my user account in windows, or on my administrator account. I don't have a Bios password either so what password do they expect me to put in? Do they have a generic password i don't know of, how can i get into the recovery console without this password they speak of? and i've tried not putting a password in at all, ive tried using the most generic password of all TIME: "password". And yet nothing. How can i fix this? If its any help i have a windows Xp INSTALL DISC, but i have to have all my files and photos still their and not all of them are backed up. And i tried the repair option but its too hard to deal with. Thanks for the Help!Try hitting Enter when prompted for a password...Boot to the XP CD and select R (Recovery Console)

At the command prompt type:

ren c:\windows\system32\config\system system.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config

RebootI put the XP install cd in and chose the repair option it brought me to that command console and I typed: ren c:\windows\system32\config\system system.old I hit enter and it replied by saying "access is denied."
so I tried copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config and still "access is denied" so I tried both at once and it says "the command is not reconized." so I don't know what to do know, any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!
