is getting bigger hard drive out of question?
You can start out by RUNNING DiskClean from Programs/Accessories/System tools...
When that's done run disk defrag if you haven't done it in AWHILE ( you may want to run it before you go to bed)
Then start by tracking down the most space hungry files you have such as photos; videos and music and start organising them to be burned to CD/DVD.
You do have a burner correct ? ?
At any rate this is a good start for getting organised.

But these guys are correct...start shopping for a new HDD.Broni & patio: Thanks.

It is a 5.99 and has no burner and wasn't able to back up files onto an inserted disk.

I've done Disk Cleanup and CCleaner, but can't Defrag or System Restore because I only have 2% of available space.

I used to have much more room. I disconnected the printer to have it serviced and couldn't re-install it because I had no room. What happened?

A-squared and Comodo Plus have found nothing untoward as per malware.

I've deleted all programs in Add/Delete that weren't used often but have found, in My Documents a whole bunch of files that seem to repeat and initials/codes that I don't know the meaning of.

I Googled .dll and it said Windows needs those to operate. I don't know what the system needs and doesn't need to work efficiently, but I'm hoping there is a place I can go to see what files/codes are necessary, then I can delete the other stuff.

A senior, on Disability, it took me 5 months to save for this little, used pc and it gives me a volunteer job that makes me feel worthy. That's very important to me at this stage.

I'm GOING to go into My Documents and see if there are any photo/music files in there that I can delete. I used to share my pc with a grandchild so, I'll find stuff that I won't recognize and should be able to just get rid of.

Then I'll run CCleaner and Disk Cleanup and try System Restore, in case there isn't enough room to Defrag, still.

I've found your instructions most helpful and I am following your step-by-step tasks to get my pc back. It is a big task and I hope to get some satisfaction from it all.

Isn't there a SITE, or somehow can I find out what the initials/codes are - write them down - and delete all the other stuff?

I can re-download my anti-malware software and re-install my printer and, would it ever be nice to get some efficiency out of this, so I can, too.

Your help is so needed and appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ann
Download, and install Disk Space Reporter: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Disc-Space-Reporter.shtml
Very small file (under 200KB).
Open it, it'll SCAN your computer. When it's done, go File>Save As, and save its report to known location.
You can't attach this type of file here, so PM me, and I'll give you my email address. You'll send that report to me, then. I'll see, if you have any huge files, we can delete.Hi Broni:

I deleted all music and photo files.

Tried many times to download Disc Reporter and every time, it stops everything, before I get to Save it.

Two of those times, I got as far as 'Allowing' Comodo firewall to proceed with the download.

The link, for Windows XP download problems, gives directions for EI. Mine isn't working. It just means we have to try something else.

I hope you consider this a bit of a challenge!

Thanks,

Ann

PM me with your email address. I'll send you a copy of installation file.
