Solve : thunderstruck?

Answer»

So we had a lot of thunder recently and and after a REAL loud thunderstruck my computer died, I dont think everything is dead.
So when I try to start the computer itself the ventilator runs for just a second and my USB stick blinks for just a second.
So now I wonder what the problem is, myself I think it could be the SMPS.
But yeah I'm not that great with the computer build, so help is appreciated, thanks.Good afternoon Frankz and welcome to CH

We would be more than happy to help you but we would need some more info

What KIND of PC: Laptop or Desktop?
What model is it: Dimension C531 or  DV9000? etc
Did you try moving the plug to another outlet?
What lights do you see on the PC only POWER light and like what color is it.

Sorry for the questions but we can't give you any answers with out some information.

Hope to hear from you soon, Mike Quote from: hartbeatmr on August 24, 2012, 01:08:21 PM

Video card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 890 mb i believe
RAM: 4gb not sure what model
not sure bout the motherboard

dont know if you need all that information but just telling for sure

Lights is just from the usb stick, orange color Good afternoon Frankz

Thank you for the info

If you are not seeing any lights on the PC case from? "Lights is just from the usb stick, orange color " it is very possible the PS (power supply) it bad do you have a old spare PS or one that you can borrow?

Come to think of it a lot of those Corsair CX series had a 3 year warranty. But some of there PS has a reset button it may be in the back side of the PS by the AC cord if so try pushing it in because I believe they were PFC'd

I hope this helps,  PLEASE let us know. Mike

yeah i have a pretty new one with 500W, plexgear ps-500. not sure if that will work.
and that reset button like a hole where u have to put a nail in it or something?Welcome back Frankz

Most companies will not have you use a small punch most of the reset buttons are at the surface but honestly I can't say it is possible.

Just don't for get to plug in the small 4 wire plug (normally 2 yellow & 2 black wires) into the motherboard along with the 20/24 ATX plug

Hope this helps, Mike   Thanks a lot.
I switched the power supply and it runs perfectly, thanks once again.Good afternoon Frankz

You are very welcome that is why we are all here  it is to help people just like your self.
