Answer» Hello there,
could somebody out there help me out with this problem?
Here's what I know:
every couple minutes my external speakers generate this harsh tinny static. the static varies in intensity but typically lasts for 2-6 seconds. Even with audio muted out this distortion still occurs, but at a much FAINTER VOLUME. Switching to the on-board soundcard (SigmaTel?), this crackling seems to vanish. My speakers and external soundcard worked fine on a previous system (windows xp, if that is relevant).
What's the way to troubleshoot this? It's a persistent problem and hope to leave this fuzz behind me
SYSTEM: Windows 7 Dell Precision Workstation 690 Intel Xeon CPU X5355

happy to supply additional info ThanksYou could check/inspect the PCI slot(s) for your sound card and see what is the nearest possible static interference SOURCE.You said: Quote Switching to the on-board sound card (SigmaTel?), this crackling seems to vanish.
Please provides some detail. What kind of external speakers? It might be the speakers and its power supply are the source of the noise. You said: Quotespeakers (Yorkville YSM5) connected thru a Tascam US-122L Photos shows speakers have power.
So, why do you need this? Tascam Audio/Midi interface.
My guess is the noise is COMING from someplace other than the computer.
