Answer» Hi I recently brought a amd mobo with athlon 2400 CHIP off ebay i've hooked it all up with the old bits and bobs and i'm trying to install windows xp. The computer starts fine and i use the install disk to load setup, however after it loads in the drivers and GET to the point where it says "setup is starting windows" and then would normally get the menu where you can format disk create partition and install windows. it goes no i don't like you and restarts the computer. Anybody GOT a CLUE why?Diagnose HDD and RAM health. Is this a shiny CD that says Microsoft all over it ? ?
If so try Raptor's suggestions and CLEAN off the CD with a soft lint-free cloth.Yeah its a real copy of windows the disks fine i installed another system the other day. I'm pretty sure the hdd is fine i had it running on a different computer and i formatted it to see if that could be a problem but not change. how can i test the memory as i don't have another compatible system for that ram, the computer detects it fine on start up and in the bios.MemTest...free dload.

Three sentences, but economized with one period.
If that is a real Windows CD, one of those machines is going to have problems in 30 days. If not, that is another issue.
