Solve : trouble starting vista?

Answer»

I am running windows Vista on a Dell. SOMETIMES when I start my computer the progress will go on forever, I will power down my computer and do a NORMAL start and it will start and sometimes not. I had to use my recovery disc and recover my computer. How do I find out why my slideshow isn’t working any more?

Are you able to fix your start-ups issue? Were you able to backup previously installed files on that PC? If not, then you will really have a problem viewing those pictures. For Vista and Win 7 use Windows Sidebar and gadgets .My files are always intact when I use the recovery DVD. One day I was gonna view my pictures with my slideshow and the slideshow wouldn’t work.

More details...
What is this slideshow app...built in Windows feature...or 3rd party PROGRAM ? ?The slide show is the slide show that came with windows. It just says “An error is preventing this slide show from playing”
Are you able to fix your start-ups issue? Nope Please post your computer model/specs. and all your installed protection software(ANTIVIRUS, spyware, firewall and real-time scanners).

On what part shown on the screen do this happen? TRY running check disk on your system drive.
1. Open Windows explorer and right-click your C: drive
2. Choose Properties and select Tools.
3. On Error checking, click Check Now...
4. Use one option or place checkmark on either options.
Do step 4 twice by placing one checkmark on a.)  fix system errors  b.)  scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
5. Hit Start and wait for the operation to finish.
See this thread http://blog.jtbworld.com/2008/02/error-is-preventing-this-slide-show.html on how some users were able to solve their slideshow issues.I ran check disk that went well. What was I looking for? I also ran defrag a few nites ago. Slide show still doesn’t work.

Have you tried copying the destination pictures from where your viewing the photos to another folder/directory and then setting again picture slideshow?
The given link also mentioned setting power options to balanced or high performance. I did see the info on the power options and tried that, had no affects for me.

Try not to mix different file formats on the folder and use a number of pictures first then try running again slideshow.I just had the start-up problem occur this morning. Start-up repair doesn’t work, I  have to use “start windows normally” and try that and it worked this time otherwise II would have used the recover DVDPlease be more specific on what is the start-up problem. Is there a message, an error or hanging, freezing or slow boot? What model is your dell computer? My computer is a Dell.

INSPIRON  530S    I run Windows firewall and Microsoft security essentials A.V. and spyware. Sorry for overlooking this info.  No message, doesn’t boot, just an onging progress bar. Than I use the power button to power it down.
Try using Windows Vista repair using your Vista CD and use this Link as your guide. I would suggest also to run your Dell Diagnostic test . If you happen to be using a video card, try removing and use the onboard graphics card to check on the startup problem.
