Answer» Hi, when I try to defrag I get this error.
"Disk DEFRAGMENTER has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: C Please run Chkdsk /f" Then when I ATTEMPT to run "Chkdsk /f" (via the cmd prompt)
I get a message saying: "The type of file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to SCHEDULE this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)" Then, when I say yes, and restart the computer, nothing happens. What is the process I need to stop to allow me to defragment my hard-disk?
I am running a DELL Inspiron (9400) E1705 2Gb ram, 2.0GhZ intel duo core proc, 1 GhZ fsb I had been gradually installing my favorite softwares and had run diskeeper 10 and noticed some pink when I was done and had decided to do a boot time defrag. I set it to boot defrag on reboot and then I started to get the error message. Can anyone advise me? Thanx, DanI'll assume that XP is in use. Do you have a WinXP CD or is it a restore CD?
