Okay,here we go.Got a new hard drive and a new winxp pro cd.trying to load xp onto new hard drive using the 6 floppy discs and when it goes to start up it comes up with .sif file missing or corrupt  value 0 on the line in section(source disks files)with key "sp1.cab"  
Can anybody help me?this is a new WD hard drive 40g and a brand new xp pro cd purchased today because the last one did the same thing >PLEASE HELP!!!!You made a post with the same problem a while ago (I reconised Thomas ) Did you try out MERLIN's suggestions?Yes I tried every thing I could think of and all suggestions made to me.can you help?Well, I don't know much about XP (personally I hate it) but why do you NEED the floppy disks?  Surely if you bought a new XP Pro CD it would install off that without need of floppy disks?For some reason,Icant get it to load from the cd.It keeps coming up as non system disk,remove and restart.you need this>http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxphome/installxpcdnewhdd/index.htm   and i hate winxp and longhorn also....Hey everyone who pitched in on this sif file problem.I was using the wrong setup discs.I had the 6 disc set to start xp but for sp1.My new install cd has sp2.obviously they are not compatable.Thanks to all. wrwss.....Are we to understand that you have sorted it out and you have now successfully installed Win XP pro and SP2?. Don't forget to go to Window update page and check for any current updates . Oh , by the way , contary to what Neil has said....Win xp (be it Home or Pro )is a very good and stable platform.

Yes.Installation is COMPLETE with xp pro & sp2.The new cd is equipped with sp2.There are no further updates and everything is fine!I need to remember that there are different setup discs for xp,sp1 and sp2.And yes,I think xp is the best windows thus far!Very simple to use.Hopefully they wont mess up longhorn like they did me!!
