Solve : Unable to login. Missing dll Please help??

Answer»

Hi,

Can somebody please help?

I have windows 2000 and upon starting the computer recently I received  this:

MSTask.exe unable to locate dll

SHLWAPI.dll could not be found C:\windows\system32

I cant boot up the computer, have tried Safe mode, last known good configuration etc.

I thought about starting up in DOS and copying the file from another computer but dont know how.

Could somebody please help?

ThankyouOptions are :http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

c:\windows system it belongs.....ok.....Thankyou very much real helpful, especially dll files. Trouble still being the fact that i cant boot the computer up to begin with.

Am in real trouble.

I am stuck?Does it past p.o.s.tto some people.....I am going to have to speak in laymans terms i am afraid.

It gets to the screen with windows 2000 on it. Small blue bar at bottom showing LOADING progress stops momentarily and looks as though it glitches and then carries on, the following screen begins, after a few moments the error message appears and thats it, cant go on.

Have tried EVERY possible option in advanced menu.

When using safe mode it is just a black screen with "safe mode" written in each corner, mouse pointer available but nothing else. Is this normal?

Thankyou for the help.
Laptop/desktop/tower system? ram is 128/256 more info on system helps.....does it beep on start up....It is a desktop, it is a reltively old computer(5 years) designed for digital video EDITING, by ProActive MediaMaster.

It runs on Windows 2000pro.

I know this may seem ridiculous as i ndertsand the info you are after but all it says is:

Coppermine(tm) 833mhz
Front side bus    133mhz

256 RAM

Sometimes a black screen appears first of all with a flashing white cursor in the top LEFT, hitting any key starts the boot up sequence

There is no beep.

And i am afriad that is all the info i have on it.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q314503&ID=KB;EN-US;q314503Thankyou for the help. I will give it a try.

Much appreciated.

Hopefully you wont hear from me again for a long time.

Thanks.Turncoat:

When you USE M_2's instructions for the Recovery Console, try replacing the SHLWAPI.dll file in a way similar to these instructions:
