Solve : unable to save as jpeg, jpg, gif in paint?

Answer»

My computer is a dell gx60with Windows 2000 PRO SP4 and Microsoft Office 2003 Pro. I have no option to SAVE AS jpeg, jpg, gif formats in Ms Paint. I have done a FULL install of Windows 2000 Pro, and FULL install of Microsoft Office 2003 Pro.

The only SAVE AS options that I get in Ms Paint are BitMap formats.

On another computer that I have, I installed the same Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro, and Microsoft Office 2000 Pro, and I get all the options: BitMap, Jpeg, Jpg, GIF and some other options too.

Can someone please help me? I really would like to keep the Office 2003 Pro.

Is it possible that with Office 2003, the Jpeg, Jpg, Gif options are not available?

[email removed to prevent spam]Well - this is not a solution, just an option. I am not sure why you are not getting the choices for save format, have to say.

If you have or get Irfanview - a freebie and very useful even as a viewer - you could open a saved BMP in that and save then to what you want - delete BMP after use if so desired. Roundabout method but maybe useful for now.

Be on LOOKOUT for the Google bar option during install and UNCHECK it if you do not want it. The install itself is very light with minimal registry writes. The plugins pack option too is handy.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299953

Hi! Dias,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299953 - I tried that link and followed everything, but still no dice!

That link TALKS of Windows XP and not Windows 2000, though.

So I wonder if that suggestion applies in my case.Quote from: Dias de verano on November 23, 2008, 11:10:03 AM

So I wonder if that suggestion applies in my case. You could try Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
This launches System File Checker which will repair/replace any corrupt Windows files.
Have your Win2K CD handy...it will ask for it.
When it finishes remove the CD and re-boot.
This may or may not fix it but it won't do any harm...Normally after a fresh install the "Save as .jpeg .jpg option is NOT available in MSpaint until you open Paint and import one .jpg image/photo...then the "Save as .jpg, jpeg option appears and is always available. So perhaps you should try that?

Or look here?

Hmm, that's hard to believe but I'll take your word for it. What file format options does Paint show without that initiation procedure? What is Paint's initial default format for saving files?BMP format is the default.

I see this is related to having MS Office installed. I've had Office so long I guess I completely forgot that Paint does not support .jpg except unless induced by other means.
