Solve : Unable to shut down computer? |
|
Answer» hi guys. No spyware, viruses and what not. No overheating on mobo, gfx card etc. How have you determined this ? ? ?To paito: Did a spyware scan, hijackthis . Scanned my computer with Avast anti virus and my policy of not installing any suspicious programs limit my computer likely-ness of GETTING infected with malicious stuff. As for overheating. I use Everest to take a look at my computer temp and all (HDD, gfx card, ram and processor ) were under 50 degrees Celsius. If that is not adequate. Would u mind advising me on what next to do in order to really make sure that my claims are correct. To programming_pat: Is losing data the only worry? Cause i mainly use that computer to play games. I do not do any work on it, thats why ppl have a lappy . Thanks again guys. as long as you have a small backup of all of your games saved files that will be ok. 50 degrees Celsius is... 122 Fahrenheit Thats an okay temperature, but it could be less. (Unless its a laptop, then its fine) This is most likely not the problem though. Pressing CTRL while shutting down basically means that you are not allowing any grace period for the applications to exit PROPERLY. What programming_pat said is completely correct. Holding down CTRL while shutting down should only be used for diagnosing problems, and for occasions when applications disagree with you.... Try this: Shutdown the computer like normal When it hangs, press CTRL+ALT+DEL Go to the "Processes" tab Find the title: "Explorer" and end it Tell us what happensQuote from: Zylstra on June 20, 2007, 11:37:00 PM 50 degrees Celsius is... 122 Fahrenheit It doesn't hang. The computer is responsive but it just can't seem to shut down. As for ur recommendation. I've tried ending Explorer.exe manually but it doesn't seem to slove my problem. The taskbar and icons all disappear but my computer is still not shutting downIf you've got time, try ending a PROCESS in the task manager that is not a system process(if it says System under the User Name it is a system process) and then shut down your computer normally if it doesn't shut down then do it manually. Write down the name of the program that you ended and then turn your comp back on and repeat this process until you are able to successfully shutdown. The last process that you ended would be the one that is preventing your computer from shutting down. Run a full HDD search for the program and if you can determine what program it is use Add/Remove in the Control Panel to uninstall it. This hopefully will remove the process that is preventing your comp from shutting down. From The Mothership... |
