Solve : Uncompressing files enmasse?

Answer»

*sigh*

So, I've searched, and searched and searched. I'm sure some of you have heard this tale before.

I used disk cleanup. I let it compress old files.

So.. now... I have an undeterminable amount of files compressed on my computer. In particular this problem is severely affecting certain programs.

Going through each folder and selecting the files to uncompress them is not only time consuming, obnoxious, but doing it thoroughly is nearly completely absurd an idea. I've been doing it, and I've SPENT hours doing it.

Please tell me there is a program somewhere out there, or some -way- to simply uncompress all these files at once. Surely there is, I mean, windows can compress them enmass rather effectively I've unwittingly found, why is there no solution to undoing that horrible deed? Is there one? Please help.Check in your windows help file & type in the keyword 'uncompress' it should show you how to do it using the 'compact' command.

Too BAD your OS is a secret because it stops us RESEARCHING it further for you.Windows XP ProfessionalNaturally I'm using W2K but check your help file anyway.

Mmmm, well, got it running now... so hope it works. ^^

Thank you very MUCH for the guidance. It LOOKS as if you can uncompress using wildcards too.Try this CLEANUP and look at how to remove the Compress Old Files registry entry. And make sure that you don't have compression set in the drive properties...
