Answer» my laptop was working fine this MORNING....then on a restart it ended up missing a DLL. I hoped i could take it of the cd. so i installed xp home again. it got to a point where it said it already had c:windows. so i created a new file and named it windows2. is the a way i can remove the 2nd file and just use the original since it has all my settings and programs there? see if it's in add and remove programs and removeis nothing in add/remove programsYou now have 2 installs of Windows on your machine... What is it you want to accomplish so we can assist further ? ?yes.....the original labeled c:windows. and the second labeled c:windows2. i want to unintstall the second and return to the original, since when it boots it loads the second version.Start from the scratch: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.htmlI would start the computer back up and at the screen where you choose which operating system to start, choose the old one that you want to save and then tap F8 as it is loading. At the advanced STARTUP screen choose "Last Known Good Configuration".
Can you get into it now?thanks for the help.....get her up and running Did you start from ground ZERO?
