Solve : uninstalling Windows 2000 Pro and upgrading to XP? |
|
Answer» I need to upgrade to XP Pro, is it necessary for me to uninstall Windows 2000 Pro? If so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks for any help!! No need to uninstall it...just FOLLOW the directions in the XP SETUP routine and select a clean install and it will wipe that HDD in the process... Yes, I set the boot sequence to cd rom, then rebooted, The XP set up was going through but then it stopped when it was installing files. I am using the original XP Pro........I didn't realize, does that made a difference... :-? What does that mean? You had asked me if I was using the upgrade CD or the original full XP Pro CD, I am using the the original full XP Pro Cd.........Actually that was dl65 that asked that. During the install did you choose to format the drive? If not, do that and post back.I set it up to boot from cd, the installation was going fine and then it froze up at installing drivers. It never asked me to format the hardrive. It's right after you press F8 to agree to the license.Well, I have tried every tip y'all have given me, nothing has worked. It doesn't ask me to press F8 to agree with the license. When I boot with the CD, it just ask me to press any key to continue, after that it starts the download and STOPS when it is downloading drivers. It doesn't ask me to format the hardrive, it doesn't ask me anything, it just starts the download and then freezes up when it is downloading drivers. What the heck am I doing wrong? [smiley=embarassed.gif] [smiley=sad.gif] HELP!!!Try gently cleaning that CD with a soft lint free cloth...COULD it actually be that easy?? Yes. But no guarantees in your case.anything is worth a try to me! Thanks |
