Unknown folders on external DRIVE?
Recently, in one of my external hard drives, the following folders have appeared in the drive ROOT:

7fb7dac2bb16c4aa9c7238e97b5bcc7c    empty

65c8d890d8d994d8302e43b3f93c    empty

531a420f86442b4ff51cdb7b   'Setup.exe' inside

629d83dea8849fbf3adb1b  have to open with 'admin', folder 'amd64' inside

ab9251f6adfb6282d66a83a8  have to open with 'admin',  folder 'amd64' inside

b8854913dead8cf1a6

Anyone know how and why they appeared, what they are for, and is it safe to delete them?

Thanks!

Win 7 64bitLooks like vid driver files to me....how they got to root i have no clue. They look like Windows update folders to me (folders sometimes created when updates are INSTALLED). They are generally created in the root drive and ultimately deleted. In any event, feel free to delete them. Thanks everyone for your fast responses.  Once a month I run CCleaner....the next time I run it, I'll see if those folders are 'cleaned'.quite often with those sort of files, when you go to delete them yourself, you get a 'permission denied' error.
if that's the case, CC won't be able to delete then either.
I use a LITTLE utility CALLED Unlocker to remove them when that occurs.Another thing you can do with unknown files is create a new folder...move them there ...if the system runs fine for a week then delete them.
